Opera on Tuesday released the latest version of its desktop browser for Windows and Mac. The Opera 22 brings several new features, including new themes and a silent update feature. The company had rolled out the beta to this version a month ago.
Now the latest version is available to download on Windows and Mac. Users can also download the browser themes as add-ons from the Opera website, or by right-clicking on an image online and selectUse Image as Theme. To switch between these new themes, users can select Opera Menu>Themes on Windows and View>Show Themes on Mac.
"We have gone through considerable effort to make Opera look slick and modern, while still blending in nicely with it's surroundings. Since our browser was born in Norway, we decided to take Opera's look a step further by selecting five new, inspiring themes that showcase the local scenery. They complement Opera and add a touch of Scandinavian style to your desktop," Opera team explained on its announcement blog.
There's also a 'silent-update' feature that will automatically update the latest version of Opera in the background. Notably, this feature for now is only on Windows. The new version utilises Chromium 35.0.1916.114, and ensures smaller updates to conserve bandwidth.
"With Opera 22, we have introduced a new silent-update mechanism on Opera for Windows. This update will be the very last time you seen that irritating authentication dialog while surfing the net," blog added.
Users can check out the complete changelog for Opera 22, which details several improvement and bug fixes.
Earlier the company had released Aura-powered Opera 21 for Windows and Mac. Opera 21 browser uses the new Aura technology by Chromium Projects, which hardware-accelerates the entire browser, as per the company. Notably the company released its Chromium-based browser in July last year.
