The Motorola Moto X has been a very well received device since its release last year. There has even already been rumors and leaks surrounding the sequel to the Moto X-the Moto X+1. However almost a year later, there is a strong possibility that we will be seeing a new version of the original Moto X-with a 64GB storage option.
According to reports from Russia, Motorola is planning on upping the storage space on the Moto X. This may be very welcomed since the Moto X didn’t come with an SD slot. Though with that upgrade to onboard storage, there will also be an upgrade in price.
Currently, there are 16GB and 32GB versions of the Moto X. However the 64GB version will cost you about $50 more than the 32GB versions and $100 more than the 16GB versions. So this option will be for those who love the Moto X but store a lot of information and are willing to pay the extra cash. Since it is a year after the release of the Moto X, and closer to the release of theMoto X+1 it is unclear how well this device will do in sales.
The original Moto X didn’t do too well in sales, instead the sales were very disappointing. In the third Quarter of 2013, the Moto X sold about 500,000 units. That was in comparison to other OEM devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4 which sold about 10 million units. Though the Moto X had something that no other OEM had-Moto Maker.
Moto Maker has become a very popular aspect of the Moto X series. At first, Moto Maker was only available to AT&T but opened to everyone after a couple months. Moto Maker allowed the customer to customize everything from build colors to splash screen messages. This option helped sales, but didn’t break records anywhere. So now, Motorola is in attack mode with the release of the Moto X+1, their Moto 360 smart watch, and now possibly a 64GB storage capable Moto X. Will they all be released at the same time?
There has been now word as to when the 64GB Moto X will be released, though sources for PhoneArena have confirmed that the device is coming. According to these sources, the device will be available on Sprint in the US. There has been no word as to if other US carriers will be getting the version, but we will keep you updated as news trickles out. As for the Moto 360 smart watch, we are expecting that to be released in June as well as the Moto X+1.
