Android phone users warned against virus activity on AdobeR

Cyber security agencies have alerted Indian Android phone users against a potential vulnerability in certain versions of their 'Adobe Reader' programme which could compromise their personal data.

Categorising the activity of the virus as "high", the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) said the malfunction affects the Adobe Reader mobile version of "11.1.3 and prior" installed in Android phones.

The CERT-In is the nodal agency to combat hacking, phishing and to fortify security-related defences of the country's Internet domain.

"A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by creating a specially-crafted content which, when executed by the target user, would lead to execution of arbitrary code on the target user's system leading to compromise of the documents in the reader (Adobe Reader) and SD (secure digital) card files.

"This vulnerability exists in Adobe Reader due to improper restrictions to certain JavaScript interfaces from ARJavaScript, ARCloudPrintActivity, ARCreatePDFWebView classes," the agency said in its latest advisory to users.

The Adobe Reader software is used for reading and editing tasks on PDF files while the SD card is used to store pictures and video files on a mobile phone device.

The agency has asked the users of this series of Adobe Reader to upgrade their respective softwares to the "11.2" version and deploy proper security patches on their devices to thwart virus attacks.

Xbox 360 model with 250GB storage now costs Rs 21,990

Microsoft has slashed the price of its Xbox 360 video game console in India.

The standard Xbox 360 model with 250GB storage now costs Rs 21,990, down from Rs 24,990. Similarly, the Xbox 360 model with Kinect motion controller and 250GB storage can now be purchased at Rs 31,990; it was priced at Rs 34,890 before this price cut.

This price cut does not extend to the 4GB Xbox 360 and 4GB Kinect, Microsoft said.

Anshu Mor, director, Interactive Entertainment Business, Microsoft India, said, "We are committed to offer great experiences to our consumers at compelling price points. This price drop on 250GB SKUs, coupled with our recently launched Xbox Live Gold Rush promo, will provide great value to our community of fans and gamers."

Microsoft is yet to bring its new gaming console, Xbox One, to the Indian market.

On the other hand, rival Sony has already launched its new PlayStation 4 console in the country for Rs 39,990. However, PS4 went out of stock in the country within a few days and supply has been aberrant since.

Google Nexus 8 release date, price and specs

The Nexus 7 is one of the best tablets around but Google is thought to be looking to launch the Nexus 8. Here's everything there is to know about the Google Nexus 8 release date, price and specs.
The rumour mill is gaining speed with details about another Android tablet from Google. The Nexus 8 is thought to be the follow-up to the Nexus 7 and could be turning up within the next few months. The above photo was posted on Google's official KitKat landing site and isn't a known Nexus device. See also: Google Gem smartwatch specs leaked: Set to team up with LG.

Google Nexus 8: Release date

The Nexus 8 will not be announced at Google's I/O conference in June, but soon afterwards in July. It will be introduced with Android 4.5 and the I/O event will focus on new Google services. That's according to Android Geeks which cites an unnamed Dublin-based Google employee.
This ties in fairly nicely with the launches of both Nexus 7 models which took place in July 2012 and July 2013.

Google Nexus 8: Price

As yet, the rumour mill hasn't spat out anything on the price of the Nexus 8 tablet. With the device being larger than the Nexus 7 - which sells for £299 - and with improved specifications we would expect it to cost a little more but Google will likely undercut rivals because it doesn't make its money from profit margins on hardware.
We're not putting any money down just yet because the design (plastic or metal) and specs of the Nexus 8 are still relatively unknown.

Google Nexus 8: Specs

The same source which revealed the release date said that Google will no longer produce a 7in tablet, instead moving things up to 8in. This change would mean the Nexus 8 will closer rival devices like the iPad mini, LG G Pad 8.3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0. The big question is 'who will make the Nexus 8?'.
Digitimes originally reported that Google will partner with Asus for the Nexus 8 with the building both Nexus 7 versions for the online search giant. However, the site now says that Google has changed its mind and gone for HTC, which has limited experience of tablets. This is all despite Google being tipped to be partnering with LG for a Nexus 8 tablet.
New Nexus devices are often launched alongside a new version of Android - a hardware and software combo launch. The Nexus 8 is thought to be launching with exactly this but it's unclear whether it will be a new version of KitKat, or the next letter, L. We could be getting version 4.5 or 5.0.
Meanwhile, Android Pit reports that the Nexus 8 will feature a 64-bit processor following Apple's lead with the iPhone 5s. It's rumoured that Google will ditch Qualcomm and its reliable Snapdragon chips for Intel's Moorefield which is clocked at 2.33GHz and features a PowerVR G6430 GPU.

If your iPhone 5 power button is broken, Apple will now replace it for free

Apple has offered to replace faulty on-off buttons on the iPhone 5, a rare glitch which it admitted affected “a small percentage” of the previous-generation smartphones.

Apple said on its user-support page that “iPhone 5 models manufactured through March 2013 may be affected by this issue,” in which the button, also known as a sleep/wake mechanism, stops functioning or works only intermittently.

It did not say how many phones were shipped with the faulty mechanism. Owners can type in their iPhone serial numbers on Apple’s website to see if their phones qualify for a fix, then either take their gadgets to a store or mail them in to be repaired.

“Apple will offer the service free of charge to iPhone 5 customers with models that exhibit this issue and have a qualifying serial number,” spokeswoman Teresa Brewer said in a statement on Friday.

Apple rarely initiates large-scale repair programs for its products, and iPhone glitches are rare. The company prides itself on hardware engineering and design, particularly for a flagship phone that yields more than half its revenue.

In a 2010 incident dubbed “Antennagate,” the company famously admitted that its iPhone 4 may experience signal loss when handled a certain way. The company subsequently offered free phone casings to correct the issue.

Apple began selling the iPhone 5S and the cheaper 5C in late 2013. In the first quarter, it moved a better-than-expected 43.7 million phones, helped by the gadget’s increasing popularity in markets like Japan and China.

Intex launches ‘Touch & Type’ Aqua Qwerty for Rs 4,990: Dual-core phone with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

While BlackBerry has reiterated its commitment to produce smartphones with hardware keyboards, not many other manufacturers are putting any weight behind phones with physical keypads.

Intex hopes to buck the trend with the Aqua Qwerty, which the company has launched for Rs 4,990. The Aqua Qwerty as the name suggests sports a full keypad not unlike something we have seen on the new BlackBerry Q5.

The phone packs a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and comes with 512MB of RAM. In that sense, it’s very much a low-end phone. It runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Thanks to the QWERTY keypad, the phone has a small 3.5-inch display, which is quite unlike some of the new launches. Intex says the slab-shaped keypad and curved edges make it convenient to operate with one hand.

    Fest300

    Why Fest300?

The more virtual we get, the more ritual we need.
Our need for in-person human connection is a reaction to how obsessed we’ve become with our iPhones and Facebook. In his world travels, hotelier Chip Conley found that there is a unique “collective effervescence” to be experienced at festivals. Yet, when he looked for a place that documented the most diverse, iconic gatherings and spectacles of our time, there wasn’t one. He wanted to see a beautifully curated site that offered a window into the living human museum of festival life. Fest300 was born.

    Why 300 festivals?

As we started evaluating the best festivals in the world, we found that most resources cataloguing these events had between 100 and 500 listings. As we made our own lists of favorites, we hovered in the range of 300 which felt like a workable list. The list is large enough to be both inspirational and aspirational. Fortune lists the 500 largest companies, and Forbes the 400 richest people in the world. We chose 300 experiences as the right number to capture the wide diversity and best festivals the world has to offer.

    Why this particular 300?

Why does a museum curator choose particular art pieces and display them in a specific way? At Fest300, we're curating experiences. We didn’t want to be too dependent on one particular genre (like arts or spiritual festivals), particular part of the world, or time of year. Truth is, we could have focused solely on European summer music festivals and had an impressive list of 300. There are hundreds of thousands of festivals - many just being hatched, some more than 2,000 years old. We intend to publish an annual list and crowdsource the final ten percent each year. We will present 270 festivals in early 2014 and then invite you to join us in selecting the final 30 to complete the 300. Our annual Best of Fest subset highlights what we believe to be the 50 most influential and interesting festivals on the planet, again with an eye on diversity. Creating your Bucket List? Consider some of the Best of Fest.

    Why Chip Conley?

Did he wake up one day with a calling to be the world’s leading expert on festivals? Actually, yes, it sort of happened that way. Chip had an epiphany when he realized he’d spent 25 years of his life focused on creating “joie de vivre” at work with the boutique hotel company he founded. When someone asked him why he loved both Bali and Burning Man so much, he realized that his cultural curiosity led him to travel the world seeking out parades, pilgrimages, parties, and anything that created the magic of collective joy in a festival format. Fest300 allows Chip to be a new kind of concierge: part travel pro, cultural anthropologist, and armchair psychologist, helping people to discover the festival that may create the conditions for a transformational experience. He spent the first half of his life working Joie de Vivre. Now he's spending the second half  living joie de vivre. And he hopes Fest300 brings you some joy, too.

    Why should you join us?

Given the momentum of growth in festival culture around the world, we believe there’s a nascent movement afoot. While Fest300.com is a URL, more and more people are seeking an IRL (In Real Life) experience that gives them a sense of meaning. Being culturally curious creates a more resilient and robust life and, as a planet, it creates a safer and saner world. We invite you to join our community and attend at least one festival per year - preferably one a little out of your comfort zone because it’s on that edge that our personal growth and insight flourishes. We also welcome your photo "festimonials" and your suggestions for festivals we should cover in our Fest300 magazine. Let’s go!
