All current smartwatches lack a typing solution. Users have to use a voice recognition system, which neither is accurate nor discrete. The other option forces you to take out your smartphone in order to respond to messages that you receive on a smartwatch.
A smartwatch without a good keyboard is limited. You can only use secondary-use applications such as viewing a calendar appointment, clock faces, check your sleep quality, etc. All primary-use apps used for messaging, search, web surfing and more require a keyboard. We've been developing data entry technology for wearable devices for 15 years. Our ultimate goal is to make iType your standard wearable for all the day-to-day activities and functions. While developing the software for iType, we discovered a significant obstacle: people don’t find it effective to type on tiny keys, especially when they can’t see the text that they are typing. It becomes harder to review what we type when the text is small.
We knew we needed a display system for organizing the text/message information and user interactions. We needed to make text interaction significantly more practical and easy use on a very small parcel of land (the face of the watch). How do you fit all of that on such a small face?

It makes sense that your time piece enhances your lifestyle. iType smartwatch supports your lifestyle. iType’s keyboard has an icon menu, featuring all the functionality that you want so that you can interact with text and communicate effectively right from your wrist. With iTypes’s icon menu, we've created a texting means that is comfortable and very easy to use on iTypes smartwatch face, letting you access all the texting functions you need and most importantly enabling you to type whatever you like into any app you choose to use.
We’ve provided an astonishingly rapid way to type on touch screens, using our key principles for providing a comfortable and easy way to type with high accuracy prediction. These principles are particularly suited to small touch screen devices.
The keyboard has been styled with a visual appearance, particularly suitable to the watch face.
How does it work
Very simple and fast: You don’t need to be precise, so you don’t have to worry about exactly tapping on any letter in particular. Just type on the letter group that has your letter. It’s simple, comfortable and fast.
It has the best swiping technology: Swipe over the letter groups that have your letters. Use several short swipes and taps for a single word. Yes, you can use multiple short swipes for different portions of the desired word. You decide how to swipe. We encourage free thinking for the most comfortable texting experience!
It is even good for big fingers: No matter what the size of your fingers are. Each letter group is very large, so even big fingers can use them. Just tap or swipe on the letter group to type. You can even type with your thumbs.
Special characters and functions: Use shortcuts for common special characters and functions. Access all special characters with a single gesture. No need to switch back and forth between different keyboard layouts to type commonly used characters like ‘@’, ‘!’, ‘?’, ‘’’ or any function.
New words, passwords: Enter new words and passwords comfortably. Add them to your dictionary quickly, if you like.
Corrections : Correct your mistakes very easily. Delete a word with a single gesture to the left on the word list, and retype it. Or quickly select a word to correct it. Please see 'I can type' video above.
Invisible: iType keyboard has a traditional layout that you can switch to be invisible. This enables you to see the full contents of the watch screen.

Why are we on Kickstarter?
iType was put together after years of research and development into keyboard technologies for mobile devices. The iType team has a history of inventing state-of-the-art keyboards. After testing these keyboards in user communities, it was noticed that although people greatly appreciated its unique approach, they were not ready to learn a new letter arrangement, even for a radical keyboard with just four keys. So, the company decided to adapt its state-of-the-art techniques to an interface that everyone is used to. This goal of comfortably typing on any size device, in a familiar manner, has now been achieved.
The fact that no smartwatch has a typing capability to connect the user, always and instantly, to other users - especially for situations where time counts – motivated TypeTime to introduce a smartwatch as soon as possible.
So TypeTime selected a beautiful and robust smartwatch model and has begun to integrate selected sophisticated hardware components and software running on a full Android operating system. TypeTime will also integrate its unique keyboard technology and other proprietary user interfaces into its smartwatch.
